The Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) provides ocean terminal, commercial ocean liner, deployment engineering, road, rail, and household goods traffic management services to deploy, sustain, and redeploy U.S. forces globally. Directed over 300 personnel supporting all Supply and Logistics to over 3,000 personnel in a diverse and geographically dispersed organization. Supervised and managed the ship's $23M operating budget including 30K line items of general stores, retail, and food subsistence inventories valued at over $110M, operated full service dining facilities serving over 9,000 meals daily, and delivered a monthly payroll in excess of $10M. Served as principal contracting official.
During Operation UNIFIED ASSISTANCE, our logistics team worked around the clock, identifying requirements, and procuring, tracking and delivering over 1.2 million pounds of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief for Indonesian tsunami survivors. While supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, provided logistics expertise that led to the highest deployment readiness statistics achieved by any amphibious ship supporting combat missions in Iraq.
The BHR's Supply Department consistently led the ship in advancement, retention and the attainment of professional qualifications and awards, including consecutive Blue "E" award recognition for supply excellence, the Ship's Retail Store "Best Sales" award for LHD class fleet-wide, an excellent 2005 Supply Management Inspection, and the 2005 Golden Anchor Award for sailor reenlistment/retention. In addition, skillfully planned and successfully executed the movement of a crew of 1200 between the ship and three berthing barges during a five-month Docked Planned Maintenance Availability, while meeting the crew's daily requirements for logistics, transportation, and messing.
